30th: St Ives Island: Sandwich tern, a singing willow warbler, swallow and sand martin. Manx shearwaters now moving offshore again. 29th. Godrevy - 125 grey seals in Mutton Cove, and a kestrel just before it descended to catch a vole. 22nd. We visited the 'Golden Triangle' in Gloucestershire to see the wild daffodils. Many flowers were in great condition, though perhaps the weekend before would have been even better. First stop was Gwen and Vera's Fields, where the density of flowers was quite low. the woodland held some wonderful groups of daffodils and wood anemones however. There were two muntjac on the M5 verge before Gloucester, and a red kite at Kelford. Nest stop was Vell Mill Daffodil Meadow. Finally, we went to Kelford Banks and some nearby meadows. 17th. Arnos Vale Cemetery - singing chiffchaffs, nuthatch, green and great spotted woodpeckers. 12th. Peregrine on the St Michael's Hospital incinerator. 10th. Tawny owl flew across Bridge Valley Road. 9th. The good side of a red fox in rather poor condition on a neighbour's shed. 3rd. Great views of the Kumlien's gull picking up stones and chasing herring gulls around the outflow on Lambeth Walk Beach. It still roosts from time to time on Crab Rocks below the Pedn Olva Hotel. and I watched a humpback whale surface at least twice while I was watching it there. Herring gull W 917 was ringed as an adult on 26 January 2024, and hasn't ventured far from The Wharf yet, where it poses and steals pasties. |
