30th. A walk around Crabtree Hill in the Forest of Dean looking for two-barred crossbills and a great-grey shrike was fruitless. I did see 2 common crossbills and lots of siskins though. 23rd. Chew Valley Lake. The juvenile black-throated diver showed quite nicely off Woodford pontoons, but was backlit too strongly for good photographs. Two pink-footed geese in the rough grassland behind Heron's Green Pool, and a green sandpiper and two goosanders in Villice Bay. 14th. Westonbirt Arboretum. Some photos with the iPhone. 10th. Slimbridge - one ringed common crane on the Tack Piece from the Great Crane Project. A Siberian chiffchaff (identified previously from song) and a common chiffchaff along the boardwalk. Photo of a lapwing plumage below. |
