We watched the sun set over La Gomera from our hotel.


La Palma was not visible until the sun set behind it.

and some fish to finish - top ones at Loro Parque, bottom one at Los Gigantes harbour.

- BULWER'S PETREL. Off Los Gigantes 21/8.
- Cory's shearwater. Abundant offshore. At least one showed characteristics of Scopoli's shearwater.
- Little egret. Many along the bottom of the Los Gigantes cliffs.
- Common Buzzard. 1 beyond Santiago del Teide 18/8.
- Kestrel. Common.
- Osprey. I over Los Gigantes cliffs 16/8.
- Whimbrel. Offshore 15/8 Plata de la Arena.
- Yellow-legged gull. Common offshore. Large flock Loro Parque car park, 18/8.
- Common tern. Offshore, several days Los Gigantes.
- Rock dove. Common. Some interbreeding with domesticated doves.
- Collared dove. Common. Some showed characteristics of Barbary doves.
- Plain swift. Common.
- Great spotted woodpecker. One of the endemic subspecies canariensis at Zona Recreativa Chio 19/8.
- Berthelot's pipit. El Teide and Zona Recreativa Chio 19/8.
- Grey wagtail. Singles at hotel, near Icod and Costa Adeje.
- Blackbird. One near hotel 18/8.
- CANARY ISLANDS CHIFFCHAFF. Widespread around hotel. Song not as musical and call much more shrill and 'zip' like compared with our species.
- CANARY ISLANDS BLUE TIT. A group at Zona Recreativa Chio 19/8.
- Southern grey shrike. One seen perched on a wire from the coach to the hotel, 14/8.
- Raven. 2 beyond Santiago del Teide 18/8. Tame bird Zona Recreativa Chio 19/8.
- Spanish sparrow. Around hotel and at Loro Parque.
- BLUE CHAFFINCH. Several Zona Recreativa Chio 19/8.
I didn't attempt to see the endemic pigeon species in the laurel forest. Three blue-crowned conures flew freely at Los Gigantes. I also saw Monarch butterflies.
