I attended the North American Bat Research Symposium in Austin, Texas in October 1991 and afterwards drove to Big Bend National Park on the Mexico border.

I also watched the emergence of millions of Mexican free-tailed bats merging from bracken Cave for the first time - surely one of the most impressive natural spectacles anywhere.
