Ferruginous duck: Chew Valley Lake

There have been 3 ferruginous ducks at Chew this autumn: an adult male and adult female that are usually very difficult to observe, and now a relatively tame first-winter male which frequents the channel north of Herriot's bridge. Here are some photos taken on 21 October. Note the pale collar on this individual, the lack of markings on the bill (except a black nail), white undertail coverts, white belly, and the white underwings with black margins.
