This site developed because I wanted to learn a little about web design. I've therefore included a birding diary that incorporates some digital photos. For information about my camera gear and image processing, go here.

About me

I work at the University of Bristol as a Professor in the School of Biological Sciences. I teach mammal diversity, evolution, bat biology and bioacoustics. My research is on the ecology of flight and echolocation in bats. I am married to Anna. We have two daughters, Kiara aged twelve and Ramona (fourteen), and a Bichon Frise dog called Max. I am interested in a wide range of natural history subjects, and my interest in birdwatching was re ignited by the recent advances in digital photography. My favourite local birding spots are Chew Valley Lake and the Somerset Levels.
