30th. 28th. 26th. Quite a lot of aerial activity from the juvenile peregrines (1 female, 2 males) today. 19th. Four peregrines fledged in the Avon Gorge, with the nest now close to Exploding Galaxy Wall. I had great views of the adult tiercel. 6th-10th. Field course at Dale Fort, Pembrokeshire. My 25th in the county, following 24 at Orielton, which closed recently. View from my room. Castle Bay, a short walk from the Centre, and a great rocky shore. There is a wide variety of habitats in the area, including some nice ancient woodland. we recorded 8 bat species - mainly soprano and common pipistrelles (equally active), with small numbers of noctules, brown long-eared bat, Natterer's bat. Myotis sp., greater horseshoe and lesser horseshoe bat. There are few hirundines around the Bristol area this summer. It was good to see many swallows and house martins around the Centre. Pied wagtail feeding chicks too. Gem anemones and a grey chiton. Beadlet anemone showing acrorhagi. Snakelocks anemone. Delia the dahlia anemone, thought to be at least 50 years old. On 8th we crossed to Skomer despite a forecast for gales. We had great views of puffins hanging in the wind. 4th. Ham Wall- 1 hobby, 1 bittern. Tealham Moor - 1 male yellow and 1 male Channel wagtail. A male marsh harrier quartering the moor. |
