20th. Brean Down in a Tramper! Lots of house martins and red admirals moving through. Broke ankle in Cornwall on 7th. Not very mobile for now but caught up with 2 Egyptian geese at Chew Valley Lake on 14th. St Ives 4th-9th. Strong NW winds on 4th blew large numbers of seabirds into St Ives Bay. These included gannets, kittiwakes, Manx shearwaters, Arctic terns and a few razorbills. Great walks to the Knill Monument and Trencrom Hill. 54 ravens over Trencrom Hill on 7th. Hummingbird hawkmoth, painted ladies and an amazing hornet hoverfly Volucella zonaria around the valerian in the back garden. The distribution map I looked at suggested this may be one of the most westerly records.
